Tesla driver banned for sitting in the passenger seat with autopilot on

British man named Bhavesh Patel was caught resting in the back seat while the car war driven by autopilot. The footage of him doing this dangerous act was captured by driver passing by.

This incident happened on M1 near Hemel Hempstead on May 21st, 2017. The Hertfordshire Police note that the car was set to drive at 40 MPH, and that Patel had left the steering wheel and controls unattended, and that there was heavy traffic on the road at the time of the incident.

He has pled guilty for this act. He has now been banned for 18 months from driving, fined £1800 , and has to do 100 hours of unpaid work for the community.

Although self driving car is the future and Tesla is at the forefront of that, still at this period the technology isn’t perfected and could’ve resulted in Bhavesh Patel’s death. Just recently a tesla crashed and that incident ended up killing the driver because he wasn’t reacting to the warnings by autopilot. And a similar incident happened with Uber’s self driving car.
