OnePlus once popular for providing flagship hardware for a mid-range price is longer adhering to it. Because of growing needs and expectations by the community, OnePlus had to constantly up its game spiking the price. OnePlus 6 is no exception, it starts at ₹35,900 ($529). Although the price increase is minimal this time, but it will increase at every launch which will someday land itself in flagship territory.
Regardless of all the caveats, OnePlus 6 is a solid smartphone. Coming with good hardware like
- Snapdragon 845 processor
- Adreno 630 graphics
- 6 or 8 GB of ram depending on the model
- Splash resistant (OnePlus says it as daily water resistant. That means protection from sweat and rain or accidental water splash. It doesn’t have an IP rating so you cannot submerge it in water)
- Headphone jack (It’s safe to consider this a feature in 2018)
- 6.28-inch 1080p AMOLED display with 85% screen to body ratio, thanks to the notch
- 16 + 20 MP dual rear camera. 16mp one has OIS
- Still the fastest Dash charging
- 3,300mAh battery
- Bluetooth 5.0
- Two nano-SIM card slots
It also has a fingerprint reader and also supports face unlock. the 20mp camera is not telephoto this time, it’s the same focal length as the main 16mp camera. Therefore the exact function of the 20mp camera is not clear, it seems like it is just to help with portrait mode. The front selfie camera to also get portrait mode with coming update to Oxygen OS.
OnePlus advertises 6 as the “Speed you need”. And with no doubt, it’s one of the fastest with that hardware and thanks to minimal Oxygen OS. OnePlus adds app caching to Oxygen OS to make it even faster and now it also has a gaming mode. When gaming mode switched on, you’ll not be interrupted by notifications and all other apps in the background will be paused to give you the smoothest experience.
Speaking of design, it is one of the best designed notched phone. The notch is smaller than other competitors plus the bottom chin is minimal. And this time around the company opted for the glass back instead of metal. The device is covered by Corning gorilla glass on both the front and back.
OnePlus 6 to be available to all on 22 May in 3 colors. Mirror Black, Midnight Black (textured glass) and Silk White. The 6GB ram + 64GB storage varient will cost ₹35,900 ($529), 8GB + 128Gb will cost ₹39,200 ($579) and 8GB + 256GB will cost ₹42,600 ($629).
