Huawei is world’s 3rd largest smartphone manufacturer and almost all of its devices run on Android operating system. In any case if Android fails or is discontinued, it will pose a great threat to most of smartphone manufacturers including Huawei. That’s not the only problem, like ZTE Huawei could also be forced by the government to not use foreign products and services.
Therefore as a backup Huawei is gearing up its own operating system. And this is in works for almost 5 years. According to the SCMP, Huawei is developing multiple OSes that could run on phones, tablets, and PCs. Huawei has no plans to compete or replace Android or other operating systems, and will be continuing to Android as the OS of choice as stated in by Zhao Ming, president of Huawei’s Honor sub-brand, “There is no doubt that Huawei is capable of doing it. But for now I don’t think it is necessary since we work very closely with Google and will continue to use its Android system.”
