Although WeChat’s parent company Tencent deny the claim. But it’s almost confirmed that Chinese authorities are able to retrieve even deleted WeChat messages if needed.
The anti-corruption watchdog, the Chaohu Municipal Discipline Inspection and Supervision Commission in eastern China, admitted in a social media post that it used deleted WeChat conversations from a suspect to figure out who else to question in a case. The post then went viral and many Chinese users questioned thier right to privacy. WeChat was always suspected of being able to read user messages but Tencent denied the claim as always.
